Objectives
- To promote the study of tropical bryophytes.
- To support bryologists working in the
tropics.
- To provide the necessary expertise to
support the aims.
- To encourage the conservation of tropical
bryophytes and their habitats.
Aims
- To research the bryophyte flora of
the tropics, particularly sub-Saharan Africa, by:
- taxonomic and ecological studies
- recording bryophyte distribution
data
- making surveys.
- To produce documents supporting the
objectives, in particular:
- a generic bryophyte flora of sub-Saharan
Africa
- in the longer term, a flora at
species level.
- To provide bryological training courses
in Africa to local botanists.
Operational description
- TBR is an ad hoc association
of bryologists with expertise in the tropics, coordinated by Brian
O'Shea (specialising in mosses and project management) and Martin
Wigginton (specialising in hepatics and project finance), who will
call on additional appropriate expertise when required.
- Funding for specific projects will be
sought by the coordinators as necessary.
- TBR will hold no assets.
